After failing the police dog academy, Gavel, a German Shepherd puppy, secured an awesome new job at the Queensland Government House in Australia. Since starting in February, he has earned some political fame working as the official Vice-Regal dog for Governor Paul de Jersey. Instead of looking for bombs, he’s now spending most of his time snuggling up to employees and generally just “spreading cheer” at the office. Get to know Gavel’s story at Good News Network below.
Police Dog Earns Fame In Politics After Being Sacked
Gavel the German shepherd wasn’t cut out for the life of a police dog – but he’s found a much more fitting line of work instead.
Gavel was sacked after undergoing a police dog training course for the Queensland police – but he was more keen on socializing with perpetrators, rather than being “professional”.
But there’s no need to worry about Gavel’s future; because he’s now employed as Queensland’s first ever official Vice-Regal dog for the Government House.

Gavel may have disappointed his trainers at the police dog academy, but he’s certainly making Governor de Jersey proud as the Vice-Regal dog. Gavel even joins him during meetings! It looks like his positive disposition helped him find a better-fitting job.

Famous Political Dogs
Gavel is only the latest in the list of famous dogs in politics. One of the most famous political pets is Fala, President Franklin Roosevelt’s pet, which became a fixture in the White House during Rooselet’s time at the White House. Other presidents also had a furry companion that became almost as famous as them.
Of course, who could forget President Barrack Obama’s beloved canine, Bo? What about President Nixon’s Checker’s Speech? These pooches didn’t only get to witness history, they became a part of it!

Loving Dogs And Their Flaws
Gavel may not have fit the bill as a police dog, being too friendly. However, it was a blessing in disguise, as Gavel now holds a position that other dogs – and even people – would only dream of. As a part of the Government House staff, he’s witnessing history being created first hand!
Gavel isn’t the only adorable police dog around. Here’s one cute puppy being trained to pounce on bad people.
